Supporting LGBTQ+ Survivors of Violence

September 16, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Students who identify as LGBTQ+ are affected by violence at much higher rates compared to their cisgender, heterosexual peers. In this workshop, we will discuss the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, family violence, stalking, and harassment face. The presentation will also provide faculty and staff the tools to respond to disclosures from LGBTQ+ survivors in an affirming and inclusive manner, equipping them with resources to best serve students.

To request a private training for your department, please complete the request form on the CVRC website.

Participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the purpose of the Campus Violence Response Center and the services it offers
  • Recognize the impact of interpersonal violence on the LGBTQ+ community
  • Identify barriers to reporting for LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Demonstrate how to respond effectively and inclusively to LGBTQ+ survivors’ disclosure of violent experiences
  • Refer students and colleagues to appropriate campus advocacy resources
