Truth in Data: Choosing the Right Source
March 21, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Not all data sources are the same, and using the wrong one can lead to confusion—or worse, bad decisions. This session breaks down the key data systems at UNCG, including Banner, ODS, UNC Data Mart, the Data Lake, and others. We’ll cover how data gets entered, where it flows, and when to use each source. We’ll also explore at a high level the reporting tools used to access and visualize data from different sources.
- Understand how data moves into and out of data sources used for reporting.
- Understand the distinction between operational and official data sources.
- Recognize that metrics can have multiple valid answers and learn when to use each.
- Identify the key reporting tools available on campus and their best use cases.
